Popa Chubby's Fightin' Words

Back with a new interview after a while (trust me, I'll make up for that) with Popa Chubby. Chubby's new CD. "The Fight Is On," is another solid slab of blues-based rock that only further cements him as one of the most hard-charging, diverse musicians in the blues/rock genre. In this 200minute interview, Chubby talks about the new CD, as well as a myriad of other topics, ranging from playing in Europe to his views on the current U.S. blues market (you'll want to hear that!) Chubby gives his outlook on his career thus far, as well as tells it like it is to musicians currently trying to make it in the business. Interesting note: Chubby is a contributor for Elmore Magazine, as am I. He talks about a book he's currently reviewing for the mag on Gibson guitars - which he incidentally used extensively on the new CD. Chubby's usually a strat guy, but the Gibsons really gave him the wall of sound he was looking for with the new record. Chubby also talks a bit about his current live set, which includes one of my favorite covers of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," as well as the great mix of Hendrix covers and originals fans love him for. Make sure to check out Chubby online at www.popachubby.com for more on the new disc, and a full schedule of live dates. Thanks to Chubby for the great conversation and to Debra at Blind Pig for setting it all up.
