Drummer Johnny Dee Talks Britny Fox, Doro, New Projects

Here's a new April 2012 interview with ex-Britny Fox, current Doro Pesch band drummer Johnny Dee. Great to catch up with Johnny during some down time with Doro, as I've loved his work since first seeing Britny Fox's "Girlschool" video on Dial MTV way back when! I talk with Johnny about his time with Britny Fox, including his recollections of joining the band for the first record in 1988, and the triumphs and pitfalls the band experienced up to and including the 1991 "Bite Down Hard" record. He also talks about his pre-Britny Fox days as drummer for Waysted, the band led by ex-UFO bassist Pete Way - Johnny played on and toured for the "Save Your Prayers" record in 1986 (the lineup also featured a pre-Tyketto Danny Vaughan). Going back even further, I ask Johnny about his earliest musical inspirations, as well as his motivation for playing drums.
Having occupied the drum seat in Doro's band for nearly 20 years now, Johnny talks a great deal about that gig, including how he got hooked up with the German hard rock queen (via a South Jersey connection!) He talks band chemistry, how Doro and the band work live and in the studio, as well as being a part of the European festival circuit. Always looking for a next great musical situation, Johnny talks about some interesting new projects, including playing drums for Philadelphia band The Electric Boa. Make sure to check out Johnny's website at www.johnnydee.com - he's got a rather extensive discography which is worth the time to view, as well as a bio and links to Doro and Britny Fox's websites. Thanks so much to Johnny for the chat, it's great to see a true survivor in the music business, still hungry for making music!
