Here's a new May 2012 interview with guitarist Mandy Meyer, formerly with Swiss rockers Gotthard, now with metal outfit Unisonic. Unisonic, who has just released their self-titled debut CD in the U.S., also features vocalist Michael Kiske and guitarist Kai Hansen - that duo was part of the classic late 80's/early 90's Helloween lineup. In this interview, Mandy talks about how he got hooked up with Unisonic, how the writing and recording was done for the debut album, and the band's live show thus far. He also talks about his role within the band, how his guitar playing meshes with Hansen's, and his co-writing credits on several tracks on the CD. I also talk a bit with Mandy about the current worldwide state of melodic hard rock and metal, the variety that Unisonic plays. We both agree that it's a bit down at the moment - he recalls seeing a Michael Schenker show in Europe recently - traditionally the genre's stronghold, where only a few hundred people turned up! Hopefully, the power and supergroup-like draw of Unisonic's lineup and live show can change things. Make sure to visit Unisonic's website for audio samples, complete bio, and more at www.unisonic.de. Thanks to Mandy for the chat, talking to me on a windy Lucerne, Switzerland spring day.
