Big George Brock Talks About Being "Live At 75"

Here's a brand new January 2008 interview with bluesman Big George Brock. The Mississippi native chats here about his first ever live CD - "Live At 75". George is the real deal when it comes to the blues; he's lived it. From his life as a sharecropper in the Mississippi delta, to being a boxer in the Clarksdale, MI area, to being a club owner in St. Louis (where he booked and played on stage with people like Muddy Waters. Ike Turner, and Howlin' Wolf) - George has been there and done that. George also shares his thoughts on taking the blues to a worldwide audience, how he developed his harmonica playing, and even turning down a record contract with blues label Chess in the 1960's. George was a great guy to talk with - he's truly one of the great unsung performers in blues today. Check out George online at www.cathead.biz/BigGeorge.html.

John Sebastian's "Satisfying" New Project

Here's a new January 2008 conversation with former Lovin' Spoonful leader John Sebastian. The main topic of this chat was the new CD John has out - a collaborative effort with mandolin wizard David Grisman titled "Satisfied". John talks about how the CD came about, what it was like working with Grisman, even the quirky ideas the pair had while brainstorming for the CD. John also talks about his feelings on songwriting, and even his thoughts on how the music of The Lovin' Spoonful has held up. Quite an interesting CD, "Satisfied" is full of acoustic flavors - from Grisman's mandolin to Sebastian's harmonica and guitar. Sebastian's voice in particular is able to stretch out in this performance. To hear samples of the CD, as well as learn about John Sebastian's long musical career - visit www.johnbsebastian.com.

Guitarist Tracy G Unleashes "Goaded" Project

Here's a brand new January 2008 interview with guitarist Tracy G - talking about everything relating to his latest project, Goaded. Goaded is a band Tracy put together with drummer Ray Luzier, bassist Larry Dennison, and vocalist Jason Witte; it's crushing, melt-your-face metal at it's best. The Goaded CD is due out in January as you'll hear Tracy explain. Other topics included in the 30 minute chat include Tracy talking about his studio and live guitar/rig setups, his thoughts on his past recordings (which are extensive!), as well as his thoughts on his time playing guitar for Dio during the 1990's (check out Dio's "Strange Highways" through the "Inferno" live CD). Thanks to Tracy for the interview, he's a cool guy to talk to - and a first rate musician who truly puts the music first. Check out Tracy's website for updates at www.tracyg.com.

Smash Palace Returns With "Everybody Comes and Goes"

Welcome to the first new Musician's Voice interview of 2008. It's a chat with one of my favorite musicians - Steve Butler of the band Smash Palace. I won't go into detail about the band's history - you can scroll down the page to an earlier interview I did with Steve that covers that. This chat is about the band's excellent new CD "Everybody Comes and Goes". Really, this album is highly recommended. If you like Beatle-esque pop with an edge, this is the band for you - actually, there's even a Beatles cover on this record. Steve talks here in detail about the writing, recording, and very cool artwork on "Everybody Comes and Goes". There's also a great story that Steve has about a hidden track on the new CD. Take a listen to the interview, then check out the band at www.smashpalacemusic.com. Thanks again to Steve for the chat - he's truly one of the nicest guys in music.
