Mike Portnoy Slams Back With Adrenaline Mob
Here's a new August 2011 interview with drummer Mike Portnoy, ex-Dream Theater, and now with Adrenaline Mob. Not losing a single step after leaving Dream Theater, Mike hooked up with Symphony X vocalist Russell Allen, guitarists Mike Orlando and Rich Ward (ex-Stuck Mojo), and bassist Paul DiLeo to create an ultra-heavy, melodic hard rock band that Portnoy says is a breath of fresh air. In the midst of their first tour when we spoke, Mike talks about Adrenaline Mob's self-titled debut EP, which is a teaser to a full-length CD on it's way, his motivation for leaving Dream Theater and his controversial subbing on the drum throne for Avenged Sevenfold, as well as his thoughts on being a well-rounded musician. A musician with a die-hard fan base, Adrenaline Mob, according to Mike himself, seems to be a polarizing entity. Without any of the progressive edge of Dream Theater, Adrenaline Mob offers straight-up rock riffs and an obvious lack of the intricate time signatures fans have been used to from Mike. He's up for the challenge, however, and is giving his all to this new band, as you'll hear in the 20-minute chat. Make sure to visit Adrenaline Mob online at www.adrenalinemob.com for more tour dates and news.
